2006
ANNUAL MEETING
Baltimore, Maryland
September 28-30, 2006
The
State Capital Group's 2006 Annual Meeting will be held September
28-30, 2006 in Baltimore, Maryland. Founded as a tobacco port nearly
300 years ago, Baltimore is a dynamic city built on tradition and
civic pride that continues to evolve while holding on to its maritime
heritage. In fact, more than 30 million tons of cargo pass through
the port of Baltimore every year. Since the redevelopment of the
Inner Harbor, Baltimore has set the standard for urban renewal and
is now a major travel destination welcoming over 11 million business
and leisure visitors each year.
Baltimore is known for its fresh seafood from Maryland's Chesapeake
Bay and for the variety of its historic neighborhoods, each offering
their own character, history and cuisine, including:
- the
Inner Harbor and South Baltimore, known as the home
to Federal Hill, arguably the best view of the city, and Fort
McHenry, birthplace of the National Anthem;
- Camden
Yards, known for Oriole Park at Camden Yards (home of MLB's
Baltimore Orioles) and Babe Ruth's birthplace and museum;
- Little
Italy, a pasta lover's paradise with outdoor movies on summer
weekends, festivals of San Gabriel and St. Anthony, and two bocce
ball courts;
- Fells
Point, the oldest section of Baltimore that maintains the
feel of an old English neighborhood with cobblestone streets,
plentiful pubs and restaurants;
- Mount
Vernon, the cultural center of the city that includes the
first architectural monument to George Washington; the Peabody
Conservatory of Music; The Walters Art Museum; and the Basilica
of the National Shrine of the Assumption (the first Roman Catholic
cathedral in the United States);
- Canton,
one of the city's hottest neighborhoods, where old factories have
been converted into a thriving retail and entertainment hub.
- Hampden,
"The Avenue", Hampden's main street (a.k.a. West 36th
Street), and many other surrounding streets are filled with thriving
businesses where visitors can find everything from kitschy trinkets
to fine arts, used furniture to flowers, while enjoying the small-town
atmosphere that remains a essential part of Hampden.
