The State Capital Group's 2007 Annual Meeting will be held September
27-29 in Chicago, a powerhouse business center and sophisticated
city of friendly people.
The Annual Meeting kicks off on Thursday afternoon with a panel
discussion focusing on procedural law issues arising in international
commercial arbitrations. A panel of speakers from Latin America,
Europe, Asia and the United States will demonstrate how procedural
formats differ in various jurisdictions around the world and provide
practical tips to help you represent clients in international arbitrations.
Following the opening session, gather with State Capital Group colleagues
around the world for a welcoming reception at the Fairmont Chicago
and then join friends for dutch-treat dinners or special networking
dinners at some of Chicago's finest eateries.
On Friday morning, marketing guru Bob Weiss of Alyn-Weiss and Associates
will present a session on "CLOSING," in which he will outline best
practices to help you get work and referrals from client entertainment,
articles, speeches, meeting, seminars, and attending trade groups
and other association meetings. Learn how to turn time spent one-on-one
with client prospects and at meetings into new legal work. This
practical session is sure to provide you with helpful tactics to
"get the business in the door."
Practice section meetings throughout the day on Friday will focus
on such diverse topics as Labor/Pension, Public Finance and International
Aspects of Airline Insolvencies; Global M&A Work; Global Warming;
Issues in Valuing and Lending Against Intellectual Property Assets;
Addressing Distressed Real Estate--Using Traditional and Non-traditional
Lender, Development, Marketing, and Government Approaches for Solving
Real Estate Problems; and Legal Issues Arising with Electronic Medical
Records. Meeting sessions will continue on Saturday morning with
meetings of the state government relations section and international
practitioners and regional discussion groups from around the world.
Bankruptcy/insolvency practitioners won't want to miss the annual
gathering of State Capital Group bankruptcy colleagues at the Annual
Meeting. The Bankruptcy Section has planned a special meeting track
with sessions dealing with bankruptcy, insolvency and creditors'
rights issues, and bankruptcy practitioners will gather on Thursday
evening for a special bankruptcy networking dinner at one of Chicago's
top-notch restaurants.
The ever-popular "Roll Call of the States, Provinces and Countries"
will take place on Friday afternoon, followed by a reception and
dinner at the amazing Art Institute of Chicago. During the Friday
evening event, attendees can participate in a private tour of the
Art Institute of Chicago's world-renowned collection of American
art, featuring works by George Bellows, Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer,
John Singer Sargent, Charles Demuth, Marsden Hartley, Edward Hopper,
Georgia O'Keeffe, Charles Sheeler, and Grant Wood.
