State Capital Group 2008 Annual Meeting
October 2-4, 2008 ~ San Francisco, CA



Spouse/Guest Activity: San Francisco Deluxe City Tour
The State Capital Group will host a private tour of all of San Francisco's top attractions for guests and spouses of attendees. A shuttle will pick up all tour attendees at the InterContinental Mark Hopkins Hotel main entrance promptly at 9:45 am and return the group to the hotel at approximately 1:30 pm. A lunch stop will be provided, though tour attendees are responsible for their own meal.

Pre-registration is required for this event. Tickets are $45.00 per person.

Chinatown - San Francisco is home to one of the largest Asian communities outside of Asia. Visitors will find traditional Chinese shops, fish and produce markets, restaurants, temples, herb pharmacies.

North Beach - San Francisco’s “Little Italy” was once the meeting ground for beatniks and bohemian writers, today the restaurants, bakeries and cafes draw the crowds.

Palace of Fine Arts - View the structure designed by architect Bernard Maybeck and contracted for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exhibition, which celebrated the opening of the Panama Canal.

Presidio National Park - A U.S. Army base for over 200 years, the nearly 1,600 acre urban oasis is now national park land and offers some of the city’s most picturesque views.

Fisherman’s Wharf - Once an active fishing port, a small working fishing fleet remains but the primary industry is tourism. Visit the wharf on your own after returning from your bus tour. Stroll past crab stands, dine at world famous seafood restaurants and enjoy family entertainment. 

Ghirardelli Square - The former chocolate factory, is located by Fisherman's Wharf. Feel free to explore this historic area.

Golden Gate Park - Among the world’s greatest urban parks. Approximately 3 miles long by a half mile wide, this treasure is covered with wooded trails, open groves gardens, lakes the Conservatory of Flowers and Japanese Tea Garden. Extended stop for photos/sightseeing!

Pacific Ocean - Views of the Northern California's stunning coastline and pounding surf!

Golden Gate Bridge & Vista Point - The icon of San Francisco, often shrouded in a layer of fog, is painted international orange to compliment the natural surroundings. A stop at Vista Point offers breathtaking views and photo opportunities. Extended stop for photos/sightseeing!

Civic Center - The city’s center for politics and culture. Location of San Francisco’s gold-domed City Hall, world-class Asian Art Museum, Main Library, Opera House and Symphony Hall.

Union Square - High-end department stores and boutiques make this a destination for world class shopping, theatre, hotels and restaurants.

Nob Hill - Once home to the palatial mansions of the “Big Four” mining and railroad industrialists and now home to many of the city’s most elegant hotels. The cable car lines cross at the top of the hill making for a postcard perfect picture.

Throughout your tour, enjoy the views of San Francisco landmarks such as Alcatraz, San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, Cable Cars, and others.

Tour bus stops at the following landmarks to allow for additional time to sightsee and take photos: Twin Peaks panoramic lookout (weather permitting) or Victorians / Postcard Row - Among the most photographed homes in the world, the colorful painted ladies with the city skyline in the background has graced many a postcards! Golden Gate Park, and Golden Gate Bridge-Vista Point.
