2006
MIDWINTER MEETING
Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California
March 16-18, 2006
The
State Capital Group's 2006 Midwinter Meeting will be held March
16-18 in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, California. The Midwinter Meeting
will focus on several diverse topics -- including legal issues affecting
the entertainment industry; opportunities for investments in energy
assets and projects; and the Asia/Pacific Rim region -- that will
appeal to member firm attorneys and guests from all over the world
who join us in Santa Monica.
The
Midwinter Meeting officially kicks off at 3:30 pm on Thursday, March
16, with a program on "New Investments in Energy Assets and Projects:
Opportunities for State Capital Group Firms." This session will
focus on practical opportunities for increased regulatory activity
and transactional activity (mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring
and debt financing opportunities) made possible by the recent deregulation
of aspects of the energy industry and incentives provided in the Energy
Policy Act of 2005. With the potential to attract both national and
international interest and investment, this session presents State
Capital Group member firms with the chance to be ahead of the knowledge
curve as these transactions develop and gives us the opportunity to
carve out market niches for State Capital Group members. The program
will be moderated by James Broder (ME), General Counsel of
the Neptune Regional Transmission System, and will feature the following
speakers:
- Roger Bredder, Managing Director of Energy Project Finance
at the New York Office of Societe Generale, a leading worldwide
energy project lender, will discuss energy project finance opportunities
in todays institutional debt markets.
- John Buehler, Managing Partner of Energy Investors Funds,
one of the countrys leading private equity funds, will share
his view on new investment opportunities.
- Stephen Champagne, Senior Vice President and General
Counsel of ENEL North America, a U.S. subsidiary of a major Italian
utility, will provide an overview of the impacts of deregulation
from the European perspective.
- Edward Krapels, founder of ESAI and one of the nations
leading energy economists, will describe the new investment opportunities
from a strategic market perspective.
For
early arrivals on Thursday, March 16, the "Asian and Pacific
Rim Business Briefing" will focus on the challenges and benefits
of conducting business in the region and will highlight the capabilities
of the State Capital Group's member firms throughout Asia and the
Pacific Rim region.
